WOOD SCULPTURES by Matt Johnson
303 Gallery, Chelsea NYC. Ends 25 February 2017
What it is:
Cardboard boxes, painter's tape, styrofoam chunks and more garbage are all painted WOOD sculptures.
Why it matters:
So you're studying this fake box for 10 minutes in disbelief (hint: look into the darkest corners of each sculpture to see evidence of wood carving - where the chisel couldn't quite reach), and then suddenly cardboard boxes on the sidewalk become amazing for the rest of the afternoon. You know that scene from American Beauty? Yeah that'll be you.
